Francis Baptiste ft. Great White North at The Dream Cafe

In 2022 Indigenous songwriter Francis Baptiste released his debut album, Sneqsilx (Family), an album that features songs sung in his native language Nsyilxcən [nah-silk-sen], the endangered language of the Syilx [see-ilks] people. The 10-song album was his effort to preserve and connect with his heritage. The chance to reconnect with his roots helped him through turbulent times.

Following the release, Baptiste performed for the Talking Stick Festival, Vancouver Jazz Fest, Music Waste Festival, Rogue Arts Festival, Barnside Harvest Festival, Shipyards Festival, Khatsahlano Festival, and the PNE. Singles from Sneqsilx (Family) were played on CBC Radio, SiriusXM, and college radio stations across the country. The album received press in Exclaim Magazine, the Vancouver Sun, Discorder Magazine, the Times Chronicle, and several music blogs.

Baptiste’s sophomore LP is set to release in the Summer of 2024. The new work continues to feature songs in the endangered language of Nsyilxcen. It also continues to explore themes of addiction and Indigenous identity in the face of estrangement and assimilation.

Michael Bernard Fitzgerald at The Dream Cafe

Michael Bernard Fitzgerald at The Dream Cafe

In 2024, Michael Bernard Fitzgerald returns with his sixth studio album, Horizon Lines, a poignant exploration of self-discovery and a worthy follow-up to his critically acclaimed 2020 LP, Love Valley. Building on the success of his previous work,

Fitzgerald’s newest record delves into the transformative journey of fatherhood, blending soulful melodies with introspective lyrics that resonate deeply with listeners.

Recorded in the cozy confines of his home Horizon Lines embodies a unique blend of nostalgia and authenticity. Fitzgerald recalls, "Recording for Horizon Lines began at home at the tail end of the pandemic. I went into this cycle knowing it was time to make new music but unsure of what to write. My last record, Love Valley, was my most successful work to date, and after such a shift in the industry post-pandemic, I had no idea where to start with something new." Partnering with friend and producer Josh Gwilliam, Fitzgerald and Gwilliam navigated their new realities of parenthood and the reopening world by collaborating remotely—sharing voice notes, percussion loops, and audio files through sleepless nights and nap times. This unconventional approach led to a record that captures the essence of finding oneself in a new way, often with the gentle sounds of Fitzgerald’s family life making their way into the final mixes.

“What came out of this process [of making Horizon Lines] was something I think resonates with so many people these days. Finding ourselves again - a new way, forcing ourselves to trust the process until we get there.”

The warmth and calm of Fitzgerald’s sound remain ever-present in his newest work, characterized by a sincere commitment to making hopeful and deeply connective music. Whether on stage or off, Fitzgerald’s down-to-earth charm and genuine demeanour create an instant bond with his audience, making each performance an intimate experience regardless of the size of the venue. His ability to connect with fans and fellow musicians alike is a testament to his authentic presence and engaging personality.

Fitzgerald’s innovative ideas are always evident in his celebrated live shows.

Jake Morley at The Dream Cafe

Jake Morley at The Dream Cafe

Jake Morley is one of the UK’s most original singer-songwriters at the top of his game.  Having played over 400 national and international gigs in the past few years, it’s hardly surprising that he has been invited to share stages with many leading lights of modern English songwriting such as Ed Sheeran, Ben Howard and Lucy Rose. Jake may be difficult to categorize stylistically - part acoustic, part pop, part singer-songwriter, part folk - but what’s not difficult is to acknowledge his captivating live show, his groundbreaking guitar techniques, his passion for words and ideas and his charismatic power to connect.

In North America, things moved very quickly after a showcase at Folk North in Toronto. His storming live set caught the ears of the influential music community including Director of Folk Music Canada Tamara Kater, established music promoter Brad Hunt and respected US booker Mark Lourie of Skyline Artists. Follow-up showcases at FAI 2017 attracted the attention of industry and bookers across Canada and North America. His current 2018 official showcase at FAI comes while recording new tracks for the next album and will be followed by a run of UK supports & solo gigs in May, summer festivals in Canada and a full UK solo tour in Autumn 2018.

Snotty Nose Rez Kids w/ Teon Gibbs at Revelry

MODO-LIVE, Homestand present...HALLOWEEN WITH Snotty Nose Rez Kids - RED FUTURE TOUR w/ Teon Gibbs

Snotty Nose Rez Kids w/ Teon Gibbs

Snotty Nose Rez Kids tore into the music scene with unmistakable talent and an unforgettable name.

Showing off their lyrical prowess and natural storytelling ability, Yung Trybez and Young D jumpstarted the band with two back-to-back albums in 2017. Their follow-up album, 2019’s TRAPLINE, really launched their career with the hit “Boujee Natives,” and multiple awards including their first Juno nomination.

The band took their high-voltage live show on the road and clocked 100 shows in 6 different countries.

SNRK have gone on to dominate in Hip-Hop music, most recently achieving their biggest milestone, signing to Sony Music. SNRK are blazing their own path, weaving together a musical fabric of hard-hitting lyricism, revealing stories about the struggles they and their people have encountered, empowering protest songs for the front lines, and a humour that keeps even the heaviest of topics something you can vibe to.

Teon Gibbs:

Teon is a trailblazer in the local hip-hop scene. Renowned locally for fostering community through projects like Do It For The Culture, he is joining us fresh off the release of his new album, The Calm Before.

Always pushing the boundaries of genre and innovation, Complex UK premiered Teon's work and highlighted how he “hit on a fusion sound that has been sorely under-explored.”

Each body of work has been more cutting-edge than the last both visually and audibly.

Looking to engage both senses, Teon was recently featured on EarMilk as having been able to create a work with “an infectious blend that keeps the listener engaged.”
