One14 Coffee Co: A New Coffee Shop in Penticton's Cannery Building

Penticton's historic Cannery Building is about to welcome a new addition to its halls - One14 Coffee Co.

The owners of One14 Coffee Co.

We stopped by for a visit with owners Katie Ramey, Laura Chapman (LC), and Sharon Vaughan and were greeted with desert pink walls and a beautiful new rose coloured tiled counter. Katie and LC, also co-owners of Ellie Wylde Design Co., designed the space themselves describing it as a blend of 1960s Miami art deco with a refined touch.

One14 Coffee Co. will offer locally roasted coffee from The Local Chemist and so much more. Heather from Handful will be the creative force behind a daily rotating selection of baked goods, and we also spotted a soft serve ice cream machine behind the counter. The menu will also include an array of healthy options, ranging from Stillfood Bistro's bowls to housemade charcuterie boxes, all available in the grab-and-go fridge.

With a focus on serving Canadian and sustainably made food and beverages, One14 is poised to make a significant impact on the Penticton community. In addition to the soon-to-open coffee shop, the trio has also turned the large space into a commissary currently rented by Grist Microbaker, Liv’s Nuts, and Handful - all Okanagan-based female-owned businesses.

The Cannery Building, with its historical significance as a pioneering workplace for women in the Okanagan, provides the perfect backdrop for this venture. While the initial launch will focus on coffee and grab-and-go options with hallway seating for 10-12 people, the second phase is already in the works - a spacious seating area set to open in late winter 2024.

The name 'One14' carries a deep significance for the founders. It's not only a nod to the location within the Cannery Building but also an angel number, resonating with the energies of happiness and fulfillment. We looked it up and learned that when frequently presented with the number 114 you are being gifted with the energies of striving forward and taking initiative. Exactly what Katie, LC, and Sharon are doing in Penticton’s Cannery Building.

Keep an eye out for the grand opening at the end of October, and follow @one14coffeeco for updates.
