An Interview With Jen Hawk on the Opening of The Shop by Wayne and Freda

Penticton’s newest store The Shop by Wayne and Freda, located right beside Wayne and Freda at 105-249 Westminster Ave. W, will be opening its doors on Friday, July 7th.

We had the pleasure of interviewing Jen, Partner at Penticton's favourite coffee shop and now The Shop, to get an exciting glimpse into what awaits us at their new store.

Happening: What’s the concept for The Shop by Wayne and Freda?

Jen: The concept of the store is ‘A Little Added Joy.’ The items found here aren’t necessities, just things that add joy to our day-to-day lives. We curated beautiful versions of the items we use every day.

We aim to fill a gap in the South Okanagan and add to our community while building on the experience at Wayne and Freda.

Happening: What inspired the products?

Jen: The products are items that I love and that can be hard to find in Penticton. Every single item must add joy, be beautifully packaged, and of course, be a good product.

Happening: What can people expect to find in The Shop?

Jen: There will be food from Legends Haul, like marinated spatchcock chickens, chili oils, and Woozas Traditional Handcrafted Italian Pinsa Crusts. Mast chocolate bars, Pineapple Collaborative olive oils, and so much more.

There will also be beautiful kitchen items, aprons, and totes from Port Style Enterprises and Utilitario Mexicano. Locally made pottery, cards, wrapping paper, cooler bags with vintage patterns, coffee equipment, glassware, and the list goes on.

And lastly, Wayne and Freda merchandise such as hats, shirts, and our coffee!

Happening: What products will locals be the most excited about?

Jen: I think some of our food products, to be honest. I'm obsessed with this Mama Teav’s Hot Garlic and then also the access to Legends Haul. We’ll have beautifully done ready-made meats and meals, all with good-quality ingredients. As well as the meat products from Legends such as the spatchcock chickens, and Spade’s bacon. All of their products are good quality, and their marinades and flavouring are so great. Also, the chocolates, jams, and honey.

Happening: We think the locals will also be excited about the glassware and the access to so many gift options! What will your store hours be?

Jen: 8 am to 4 pm, 7 days a week.

Happening: We like to share the best things to do in the Okanagan. What are your favourites?

Jen: Kin and Folk, and Elma for dinner. Manitou Beach in Naramata is always a favourite, especially with kids. And, boating. It’s so nice to see the Okanagan from that perspective. If you’re visiting, I definitely recommend getting out on the water.
