Unique Wine Tastings to Experience in the South Okanagan this Summer

Penticton Winery View

Vast hillsides riddled with vineyards, a game of bocce with a view, and charcuterie plates; there is much more to wine tasting in the Okanagan than just the wine itself. When selecting the best wineries to visit, the winemaker's philosophy and the winery's ambiance become almost as important as the wine.

The Okanagan Valley wineries are stepping up their offerings and we’ve put together a list of some of the most unique wine-tasting experiences in the Okanagan.

Naramata Wineries

Daydreamer Wines

Daydreamer is a small family-run winery in Naramata owned by Rachel and Marcus Ansems. Unlike some of the large, run-of-the-mill tasting rooms you’ll find in Kelowna, the little wood structure known as the Wine Shack at Daydreamer Wines is surrounded by picnic tables, and large trees which add to its relaxed, down-home vibe. In addition to the picturesque surrounding, you’re often greeted by babydoll sheep who will come right up to you while you taste.

Marcus, a Master of Wine with decades of experience, makes limited-production wines that follow a beautiful wine-making philosophy. Step number ten in the distillation of his philosophy- make wines that you want to drink- not just wines that will win medals.

JoieFarm Winery

Also nestled in Naramata, JoieFarm Winery stands as a bit of an iconic establishment. Renowned for its aromatic whites, rosé, and Pinot Noir, JoieFarm's idyllic setting has the power to captivate wine enthusiasts of all levels of expertise. Indulge in a reserved tasting, or for a truly memorable experience, laze in the vineyard while enjoying a bottle of wine on comfortable Adirondack chairs.

If you find yourself visiting JoieFarm as the final stop on your itinerary, opt for a rosé slushie, topped with cassis fruit wine from nearby Elephant Island Winery.

Legends Distillery

View from Legends Distillery Naramata

Although not a winery, Legends Distillery unquestionably earns its place on this list. Revered for its unique spirits and unforgettable Lavender Lemonade cocktail, Legends offers an experience that cannot be overlooked. Following your spirit tasting, venture to their back patio to indulge in handcrafted cocktails and snacks, while engaging in a friendly game of Bocce.

Oliver Wineries

CheckMate Artisanal Winery

Set in the heart of CheckMate’s historic estate vineyard, this winery building is a striking contrast of contemporary architecture, combined with breathtaking views of the surrounding vineyards and valleys. For $75, guests can enjoy a winery tour followed by a seated tasting that features an exclusive and unique-to-you flight of CheckMate library Chardonnay and Merlot, paired with a cheese and charcuterie plate. To add to the allure, any wine purchased is beautifully wrapped in checkered tissue paper, making it a standout addition to any wine collection.

Phantom Creek

Indulge in a wine-tasting experience at Phantom Creek Estates, located in the breathtaking hills of Oliver. Prepare to be captivated as you pass through the large wooden doors, welcoming you to a luxurious tasting room and expansive outdoor patio, accompanied by friendly and knowledgeable staff. Choose between a seated tasting or elevate your experience with a two-hour private tour. Whichever you prefer, be prepared to linger long after the wine tasting concludes to soak in the spectacular surroundings.

Summerland Wineries

Sage Hills Vineyard

Sage Hills is a family-owned and operated vineyard and winery nestled in Summerland, BC, specializing in certified organic & natural wines. Their full-service tasting experience allows to you sample six of their wines while gazing at sparkling Okanagan Lake. But, the best part awaits you after the tasting. Follow the vineyard signs that lead to their newly opened outdoor patio, where you can enjoy wine by the glass or bottle, local snacks, and unparalleled 180° lake views that we believe are the best in the entire valley.
